And second, they didn't want it to depend on being a Vista user to use Office 2007. First, the Office team didn't want to depend on Software Protection Platform being done. "There are two sets of dependencies here. If you've deployed and activated Windows XP in an enterprise environment, then you've most likely used VA 1.0 to activate the operating system.Īccording to Directions on Microsoft analyst Michael Cherry, it makes sense that Microsoft chose to take a different path from Vista with Office 2007's enterprise activation. Previously, it was believed that Office 2007 would also follow the VA 2.0 model. While Windows Vista will still follow the Volume Activation 2.0 ( VA 2.0) model where a business must use either Multiple Activation Keys or a Key Management Service for activation, Office 2007 will still use Volume Activation 1.0 ( VA 1.0). Rather than require product activation for each copy of Office 2007 that is deployed, Microsoft is allowing businesses to follow the old Office licensing model where volume license keys do not need to be entered and determined acceptable. Microsoft has changed its tone for Office 2007 product activation for volume license customers.
